9 Healing Questions Jn5v1-15/Matt 8v1-17/Lk 7v1-10
Jesus healed not to prove he was God but because he is God and it
is in God’s nature to heal. Ex 15v26
God is love and wants us to be whole – to be completely healed.
Tend to focus on healing of the physical body.
Bible tells us is that we are made up of BODY, SOUL and SPIRIT.
We are living spirits, who have a soul and live in a body.
Paul refers to our body as a tent – a temporary place we stay in.
Problems in our body, soul or spirit, can affect the other areas.
God is more concerned with our soul and spirit than physical body.
God is Spirit, so a relationship with God will be by our human spirit.
We must be born again of the Holy Spirit not physically born again.
Born into this world spiritually dead towards God because of sin.
With Jesus as Lord and Saviour, we are made alive toward God.
Forgiveness and healing often linked. Jesus proved forgiveness was
real by healing the sick. After the healing, people were often told ‘Go
and sin no more lest a worse thing comes upon you’. Not just talking
about murder or stealing etc, but the importance for those who
received forgiveness and healing to let go of unforgiveness.
Barrier to healing can be unwillingness to let go of bitterness against
someone, even God. Eph 4v30-32, 1Jn 2:9, 1 Jn 3v14-15
For Christians unforgiveness is not an option. Col 3v13, Mk 11v25.
In the Lord’s Prayer we give God permission not to forgive us if we
have not forgiven others. Matt 6:12
1. What do you want me to do for you?
Wanted a personal acknowledgment of a real need.
2. Do you believe I am able to do this?
Looking for declaration of faith. Heb 11v6
3. Do you want to get well? This third question seems ridiculous.
Some actually want to stay sick. May lose help, company of others
or some financial benefit and possibly have to start work if healed.
Jesus used unusual ways to heal but healed all who came to him.
Authority given to12 and 72 he sent out. They had some success.
Jesus did not tell them to pray for the sick, but to heal them.
That is use the authority Jesus gave them to heal.
In Acts believers commanded people to be healed Jesus’ name.
The church today has that same authority.
Jesus gained total salvation for body, soul and spirit. Isa 53v4-5
God wants everyone totally saved – forgiven, healed and set free.
10. Anointing and Authority 1Cor. 1v26 - 2v5
Ministry has become the responsibility of the professional minister.
The rest just let them do it. One man ministry is not God’s idea.
Many Christians don’t know how to minister. It is time for change.
On the job training is not a new thing. It is the New Testament way.
Jesus sent out the 12 to do what they had seen Jesus do.
Authority and a commission were given to them. Lk 9v1-2
In these early days mistakes were made by the disciples.
They thought they were an exclusive club. Luke 9v49-50
Jesus corrected their false assumptions.
They reacted wrongly to rejection. Luke 9v54-55
Disciples believed they could call down fire. Jesus never said they
couldn’t do it; it was just the wrong way. To way act was to move on.
They try to control Jesus’ ministry and were rebuked. Lk 18v15-16
They tried to get Jesus to change his plans. Mark 8v32-33
It is easy to fall into the trap of us telling God how he should move.
Motives exposed even as we minister to others and God will rebuke
us, not to destroy us but correct us.
Mistakes, an opportunity to send out more, not give up. Luke 10v1
72 had same authority to heal even though they had only seen
some of Jesus’ works compared to the 12. Luke 10v17
Jesus while glad for their work had to correct them Luke 10v19-20
Ministry was not taken away but he assured them of their salvation.
Disciples fell away when Jesus died but not rejected from ministry.
Have to learn from mistakes and move on. It is on the job training.
120 were Spirit filled at Pentecost.
Authority and anointing not the same; need to be working together.
The 12 and 72 had authority but not anointed but still saw miracles.
World turned upside down as authority and anointing work together.
Signs and wonders will increase in a new wave of the Spirit.
Full implementation of 5 fold ministry will be seen. Eph 4v7-13
Words are powerful. Prov 18v21
Jesus tells us to speak to the mountain and it will be removed.
We are to come under the Father’s authority and as a result are
given authority to act as God’s appointed representatives. 1 Pet 5v6
Don’t wait until you are perfect to minister. You will not do anything.
It is much easier to steer a moving car. Gen. 24v27
Not saved by works but if we are saved works will follow. Jn 14v12
Time for gospel to be preached in power, with signs following.
11 Rubbish in Rubbish out Ps 119v1-8
Phrase used about computers – Rubbish in rubbish out.
What you put into a computer determines what comes out.
Same principle applies to our lives.
Christians need to live according to the Word in the Spirit’s power.
We are responsible to determine what goes into our lives.
Need to input the Word. Ps 119 v 9–11, Ps 119v130, Deut 6 v 6-7,
Col 3 v16, Jn 15v7
Need the right company. Psalm 1 v1–3, 1 Cor 15 v 33
Know who you can trust; whose example you follow, Phil 4 v 9
Fellowship is meant to be a place of encouragement. 1Cor14 v 26
Need to let go of things from the past
Not all we have heard or read about is doctrinally perfect
Problem is we do not always recognise what is not quite scriptural.
We may believe a lie. As we seek truth we find out if there is stuff
we need to get rid of. Neh 4v10, Jn 8 v31-32
Wrong teaching leads to wrong results and lead us away from God.
Right teaching brings us into liberty. Rom 12v2
Several things we have to do to ensure right input.
Must choose what we look at
Involves a daily choice to turn off or away from what offends God on
television or in newspapers etc. Ps 101 v 3, 2 Tim 2 v 15
Must choose what we listen to
This includes gossip; listening or passing it on. 2 Tim 2v16-17
Foolish jesting can also cause upset. Eph 5v4
Choose what you think about
All have wrong thoughts but an old proverb says “you cannot stop
a bird flying over your head but you can stop it nesting in your hair.”
We choose what stays in our minds. Phil 4 v 8
Good fruit comes from a right input.
Good seed on good ground brings good harvest. Matt 13v23

All who teach the Word answer to God for their ministry. Jas 3v1-2
In preaching must not go beyond the Word of God. 2 Tim 2:1-2
Input of truth brings understanding, revelation and fruitfulness.
We are responsible to preach truth as God brings us on to maturity.
12 Change Phil 3v7-14
Though God loves us as we are, he wants every one to change.
He sent Jesus to die in our place so we could change.
As Jesus becomes our Saviour and Lord change begins. 2 Cor 5v17
If we do not change we have to question how saved we are?
Fruit may be little at first. 2 Cor 4:16
Natural inclination for individuals and churches is to resist change.
If you want a dead church just carry on doing things the same way.
For a live church you have to be willing to embrace change.
In nature there are times of death but also of new life.
Must prune plants to produce a bigger harvest in the next season.
We may need to cut back on our activities to give God more room.
Deal with the plank in your own eye so can help others. Matt 7v3-5
Tend to focus on how others need to change but ignore ourselves.
Entering marriage expecting to change your partner is looking for
disaster. It is manipulation which is a form of witchcraft.
Recognise what needs changing in you and how it can be done.
We can change just from being in God’s presence.
Do not wait for God to change you or try to change in your strength.
If we look to the flesh to change the flesh will fail. Phil 2:12-13
God works by helping you want to obey him; then helping you obey.
As we cooperate with God we are changed. 2 Cor 3v18

Men of God, like Moses, David and Paul wanted to know God more.
If God came today in power would you run or fall down in worship.
Adam and Eve knew God’s presence, but when sin came they hid.
Do not fear of God’s presence. In Jesus we have direct access.
Enter the throne room of God clothed the righteousness of Christ.
Be transformed in God’s presence.
Be ‘changed into another form’ like a caterpillar to a butterfly.
Don’t crawl on the ground any more; soar in the liberty of the Spirit.
God is able to change us. Phil 1v6
Do not fight God over changes, you will lose, rather just cooperate.
When greater numbers come in it will bring change.
But the numbers will not come in unless the churches change.
13 Living In The now Matt 25v14-30
Moses wanted to know God’s name.
Names often indicated a person’s nature or character.
God is not ‘I was’ or ‘I will be’ but ‘I am’. Ex 3v14
God exists in eternity and is the God of our now.
Do not just live off past experiences of God; we cannot change it.
Need a hope for our eternal future but we cannot live in it yet.

living. Rom 3v22-22
Our relationship with God is to be a now thing, not just for Sundays.
Believe what the Bible says about you position in Christ.

We are as close to God as we want to be, but God wants us closer.
Bible shows God takes nobodies and turns them into somebodies.
Jesus chose Fishermen not trained theologians as disciples.
In the end all the glory will go to the Lord.
When we look at the parable of the talents, it can seem so unfair
that the one man who hid his talent was so severely punished.
One talent seems so little – what difference would it make?
We can look at our situation and abilities and think it is no use; not
even God can work. It is a God made opportunity for a miracle.
The servant with one talent knew what he had but chose to hide it
away rather than use it. At any time he could have used the talent.
Now is the time of God’s favour. 2 Cor 6v1-2
We answer to God for our use of gifts we have. Rom 13v11

Now is the day of the Lord’s favour.
14 Ground Rules For Change Gen 3v1-15
All have one problem in common – we all sin. Rom 3v23, 1 Jn 1v8
God loves us even as sinners but God also wants to change us.
To get rid of sinful habits in our lives.
To make changes there are three basic conditions we must accept.
1st Condition for change. We must believe God is good.
With all the evil in the world God’s goodness can be hard to accept.
A belief in God’s goodness is essential for growth as Christians.
Satan’s first move caused Eve to doubt God’s goodness. Gen 3v4-5
He was saying to Eve, God is holding things back from you and you
can be like God, but God will not let you so God is not on your side.
Eve believed these lies. Satan’s tactics have not changed.
He does not point out good things God provides; just restrictions.
Tells us he offers better, more enjoyable things than God. It is a lie.
If we doubt God’s goodness we won’t want to change. Jn 10v10
When you accept God is good 2 things result –
You can surrender without fear – no fear in love.
You will thirst for change knowing God’s way is better.
2nd Condition for change. Accept responsibility for your behaviour.
Have a tendency to avoid blame; shifting responsibility to others.
It happened in the Garden of Eden. Gen 3v11
Adam seems to blame God for giving him a weak willed woman.
Later Adam admitted he had eaten the fruit. Eve not much better.
Each individual must take responsibility for his choices.
We accountable to families, employers, society, church and to God.
Behaviour patterns not caused by circumstances.
They are caused by our response to those circumstances.
Take responsibility; then receive God’s mercy and power to change.
3rd Condition for change. Believe deliverance is possible.
God promised Satan would be crushed. Gen 3v15
God has provided a way of escape. 1 Cor 10v13
To say we cannot change, questions God’s character and power.
Believe victory over sin is possible.
Unbelief breeds pessimism, disobedience and despair.
All things are possible with God to him who believes. Mk 9v23
Name your sin; thanking God deliverance is possible. 2 Pet 2v9
Believe God is good. Accept responsibility. Believe you can be
victorious over any and every stubborn sin in your life.
We cannot blame God for our choices. Time to choose God’s way.
15 What Spirit Have You Got 2 Tim 1v3-14
We see in Jesus what God can do through a man filled with the Holy
Spirit without measure.
There were healings, deliverances, miracles, wise teaching and he
even had authority over the wind, the waves and death.
Remember Jesus is the example of what we should be doing.
What level of anointing are you experiencing today? 2 Tim 1v7
The kind of spirit we receive determines our action, 2 Tim 1v8
Fear binds us but the Holy Spirit sets us free to share the Gospel.
With the Holy Spirit you will be a witness. Acts 1v8
Start where you are and move out until the job is done.
The Holy Spirit confirms our sonship. Rom 8v15
Religion kills but the Spirit brings life.
We need to be open to new things all the time.
The Holy Spirit reveals God’s abundant blessing for us. 1 Cor 2v12
We must never think we know enough.
The Holy Spirit comes to teach us. Jn 14v26, Jn 16v13
The fruit of the Spirit shows the measure we are filled. Gal 5:22
Seeing all the fruit demonstrates the Holy Spirit at work in your life.
We are to have the same character as Jesus but it can only happen
by the Spirit. 1 Cor 2v14
Carnal minds are closed but a spiritual mind is open to new things.
He is able by the Spirit to accept the good and reject the bad.
Widow in Old Testament was told to gather empty vessels and then
start pouring out of the little she had until every vessel was filled.
The oil did not stop until she ran out of empty vessels.
A deception based on experiences, not God’s word, is now taught.
The lie is that as we now have the Word of God we do not need the
Holy Spirit; so the gifts of the Spirit, signs and wonders all ceased.
Being filled stopped when we stopped bringing our empty vessels.
We stopped seeing miracles when we stopped believing in them.
Jesus’ promises still apply today. Jn 7v37, Matt 5v6
Being hungry and thirsty for God leads to being filled.
Need the same heart as David. Ps 42v2, Ps 63v1
God is waiting for us to come with our empty vessels.
Can fill our lives with so many things we ignore our hunger for God.
God is pouring out his Spirit today. We must not miss it.
Being filled not dependant our righteousness, ability or age, but on
our hunger. The hungry for God always get filled.
16 Look To God Not Men 2 Sam 23v8-17
David’s mighty men weren’t always so mighty. 1 Sam 22:1-2
They were outcasts and vagabonds; not great, rich or strong.
They chose to place themselves under the leadership of David.
They knew David was called of God to be King.
God was clearly blessing and protecting David and if you want to be
blessed you need to get with those God is blessing.
It was also clear Saul was not being blessed by God anymore.
Time spent with David, proving God together, made them mighty
men of God as well. 2 Tim 2v22
David was not perfect but when he sinned and knew it, he openly
repented showing to his men how God forgives sin and restores.
With David as an example they got stronger. 1 Ch 11v10
David and his men held on to God’s word and together they grew in
strength until the kingdom was established in David’s hands.
Confidence was not just in David, but in David’s God. Ps 44v5-7
David did not look at the ability of those joining him but trusted God.
Saul lacked confidence in God and did not accept the weak to
support him, even if they had been willing. 1 Sam 14v52
Saul grabbed mighty men. David made them.
Our commissioned ts not to grab mighty men from other places but
to make them. Matt 28v19-20
God will be with us, as we make obedient disciples. 1Cor 1v26-29
What we do and say needs to be because God flows through us.
Not chosen for our brains or strength but because of our willingness.
Jesus ministered to the outcasts of society. Lk 14:21-23, Lk 15v1-2
He welcomed and justified all that were repentant. Matt 9v11-13
Jesus can only help those who admit they need his help.
The self righteous will not listen to the call of Jesus.
The gospel transforms. The weak become strong, poor become
rich, spiritually dead become alive and sinners become saints.
Trust in men is idolatry, putting men in the place of God in our lives.
Dangerous to take our eyes off God and look to our own resources.
David this with awful consequences. 2 Sam 24:2
Because of this action 70,000 people died.
As an obedient disciple of Jesus be ready to make more disciples.
Our lives are to be an examples drawing others to trust in God.
You cannot see faith but you can see faith at work.
Believe God and do his will and see God’s glory revealed.
