History
When David and Ann Rhodes moved to Blaengarw from Port Talbot in February 2001 they knew God had called them to get involved with the local community. The original vision was not only to establish a fellowship in the Garw Valley but also to link together with other fellowships and so encourage them in the work of the Lord. The Lord confirmed these aims by giving them the name ‘Garw Valley Links’. They are to ‘make links and break chains’.
Meetings eventually started in their home but by November 2001 the first service in Blaengarw OAP Community Centre was being held. A morning service with a Sunday school was started in Tabernacle Chapel, Pontycymer in June 2002. This continued until February 2005. The evening service has steadily grown in numbers. Often large numbers of children come along. Members of Tabernacle Chapel join with the Bible study and Alpha meetings held during the week.
Pastor David Rhodes has established links with the Garw Valley Regeneration Forum, Good Companions, Pontycymer OAP Centre and the residents of Dan-y-Mynydd. The strongest church links at present are with Tabernacle Chapel in Pontycymer and Aberkenfig Bible Church. Joint services at Easter and for harvest have now become a regular event in Tabernacle Chapel. Since December 2002 Pastor David Rhodes has organised the annual United Christmas Eve Carol Service held in Tabernacle Chapel.
From 18th March 2007, a morning service is being held in The Braich-y-Cymmer Hotel, Pont-y-Rhyl.
It is hoped that through personal contact and the services that the good news about Jesus will be preached and the Garw Valley will once again see full churches.
